Susanne Davies is based in York. She recently completely a major commission for the new City of York Council offices. Her favoured medium is embroidery thread which she uses to create delicate, thoughtful artworks.
Susanne describes the new work she has created for York Curiouser:
‘The work stems from my interest in traditional feminine spaces and ways of making. I shall be looking at repetitive, domestic actions and histories that take their form from the architectural space in which they happened. I plan to incorporate elements of mechanics and repetitive motion in the work I produce at the site. I plan to use impermanent and ephemeral materials.’
You can see Susanne’s work in the grounds of the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, inspired by the cloths that were once traded in this beautiful building.
